We're Getting Married!
On a cold night in January 2006, I heard the name "Danny Pier" for the very first time. I was in Washington DC with two friends when we started planning a cocktail party just like the one this apparent "Danny Pier" had once had. The two girls (Kelly and Nicole) couldn't believe that I didn't know who he was.
"The one with the mohawk" they kept repeating, though it didn't make any difference to me as I had no idea who they were talking about.
On February 4, 2006, Kelly, Nicole and I threw our long awaited party. Everyone dressed up, drank fancy cocktails, danced to Frank Sinatra and enjoyed themselves thoroughly. When Danny arrived, I was assigned to collect the ten dollars that each guest donated to support the cost of grey goose vodka! At first I was quite intimidated...his mohawk, bowling shoes, tie dyed tie and pierced ears made me quite aware of the fact that I was most definitely not cool enough to talk to him. After a couple of martinis, his daunting coolness (though still apparent) was not as overwhelming as I originally thought. We talked and laughed and soon I claimed he would be my "best friend forever and ever." At the time, I had no idea how right I was!
With two months of talking and flirting behind us, we finally went on our first date, April 22, 2006. After an evening of Thai Chicken and talking late into the night, we were both very excited about the possible relationship that lay ahead.
On April 26, 2008, two years after that wonderful first date, Daniel proposed while on a hike in Grand Junction, CO. He threw a frisbee (or disc, as we are accustomed to calling it now) to our dog Frisbee (hence the confusion). After the throw, Danny ended up on one knee, while our dog trotted back with the disc in mouth. On it was written those magic words "will you marry me?" Of course I said yes, and now we are so excited to plan not only our big day, but the many wonderful days that follow.
Here is the blog that will keep all of our friends and family posted on our busy year ahead. Check for updates as there will be many!
So far we have a date set: July 18, 2009...and a church: Nativity (in Leawood, KS)...and even a reception site: The Intercontinental Hotel. I even bought a dress! For someone who doesn't plan things ahead of time, I like to think I'm doing a pretty good job.
Next up: photographer, colors and bridesmaid dresses!
Saturday will be an engagement party at my parent's house - anyone who would like to come is welcome :)
Much love,
eb
